This year I will be tracking my workouts/runs in my new date book: The complete runner's day-by-day log 2014 calendar. Santa put it in my stocking this year. It's really cool. It is full of stories, tips, and inspirational quotes. The theme for the month of January is "Surrender". It is an article about the disciplines and pleasures of running and how they are equally important. It asks you to reflect on the past year and begin this year by reminding yourself why you run. It mentions that your reasons for running can change over time. That the reason why you started running two year ago may not be the same reason why you lace up your running shoes today.
I find that running for me provides many things. The most important thing for me is balance. As someone who is often described as a "workaholic" running shows me where I am in life. If I "need" to run often to work off stress or to work through some transitional anxiety I know that I am allowing work to eat away at me. It is becoming too consuming, it's taking over. They key word I look for after I run is "enjoy". Did I enjoy my run? Did I enjoy my workout? As long as I keep asking myself these questions, keeping that inner dialog working, striving for that balance, I know everything is going to be OK.
Just Keep Running!
