What A Day!!
 I completed my 1st 10K; it
was the Cover Run in McKinney, TX. That was 6.2 miles!! It has
always been a little daunting for me to start a race since I can only
walk. When everyone else takes off running, I always feel like the
tortoise must have felt like at the beginning of the story about the
hare and him.  Even though I did a very fast race for me, by mile 2;
I was all by myself. At one point I started to cry because I knew I
was going to be at least 30 minutes behind everyone else. Then I
reminded myself why I do this: I do not want my family to have to
deal with all of the medical stuff I posted about earlier, if I can
keep from it. So; I walk, I have drastically changed my eating
habits, and I do strength training 3 times a week.
I was shocked when I crossed the finish
line and my exercise buddy told me I might have placed in my
division. I commented: “how, do they give an award for being
last?” ha ha. I actually did end up taking 2nd in the
60-64 woman’s age group. And yes, there were actually 3 ladies in
my age group!
HSDM and I have started a nutrition
challenge. We have spent the last few weeks preparing for it. We
are now halfway through week two and still I am quite excited yet
apprehensive about it. It is very strict in what we can and cannot
do and eat. I will give you a brief outline of what the next 4 weeks
will entail:
Exercise:
Work out 3 -5 times a week for an hour
(which I will walk)
Do strength training for a minimum of
30 minutes at least 3 times a week
Diet:
We had to use a formula to figure out
how many calories we could eat, we also have to drink ½ our body
weight in WATER daily. For me that is 100oz of water! Quick, I need
to lose weight so I don’t have to drink so much water! Lol
Next our goal is to eat 50% of our
calories daily in carbohydrates, 20% in fats, and 25% in protein.
As I have recorded my eating this last
week I discovered I was falling short on my proteins and carbs.
Still perfecting my eating habits! I made it 6 days without caffeine
or sugar. Tonight though, at work, I drank a cup of coffee. I will
not like myself tomorrow morning, but I kinda needed the pick me up
to stay awake till I got off work at 11:30.
That is all for now, ‘till later,
Lefty
