Our Story

Where We Started…
HSDM and I started this blog to help keep us encouraged on our journey towards better health. Here is our story:

From HSDM….
My story started in May 2011 when I ended up in the hospital with gall stones. After a drastic diet change I lost 30 pounds! Wanting to keep the weight off and with a new found source of energy I began running and fell in love with my new self. Life has not always been easy and everyday presents it's own unique set of challanges. While we have always managed to squeeze in a 5K every now and then I will be the first to admit that working out has never been a habit of mine. Everyday when I wake up I have to make the decision; will I be good today?

From Lefty….
I am currently 63, and have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. As with a lot of us when approaching the autumn years of our life, I decided to start making changes in my eating habits about five years ago. It was not until last October that I got serious about my exercise regime and started walking on the treadmill plus utilizing the weight machines in the gym.

Our First Year. . .
A co-worker and I started working out together and decided we needed a goal to keep us motivated so we committed to participating in one 5k a month for a year. Last September we finished our 12th race! We have included some photos of our various races.

Year Two. . .
We decided to commit to another year of races, yea!! We are also going to try our wings and work up to a ½ marathon; oh my!

Our New Goal. . .
We have decided to do a destination run!
